Emily Hamilton is a soprano and bassoonist with a passion for contemporary music. With a love for collaborating with living composers, she has worked alongside and premiered eight works by composers Lily Koslow, Sean Smith, Julian Green, Gabriel Wallerstein, Christopher Ducasse, Hyo-Won Woo, and Thomas Quirion.
Emily is preparing for her performance in the Wichita Grand Opera’s production of Bach’s Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht where she will perform the role of Lieschen. Additionally, she is working on a solo recital which is planned for Winter 2025 on the theme “From Afar.” She is a Bassoon, Voice, and Piano Instructor at Palen Music Center. Additionally, she is a Soprano Section Leader at First Presbyterian Church.
Emily recently made her professional debut as the Turnspit in Dvořák’s Rusalka with the Wichita Grand Opera. In the 2023-24 season, she sang in Bernstein’s Candide with the Wichita Grand Opera, as a member of the chorus.
Emily is currently based in Wichita, Kansas where she is further developing her professional skills with her voice and bassoon. She is a recent graduate of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University where she obtained her Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance under the tutelage of Joanne Kolomyjec and Anja Burmeister.
Emily’s passion for music was born from a love of languages. She is fluent in Spanish and English; additionally, she has studied Italian, German, and French in a university setting as well as numerous other languages in her free-time. This appreciation for languages shows in her performances: Emily has performed in English, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Haitian Creole, Swahili, Latin, Russian, Mongolian, Hebrew, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, Swedish, Icelandic, and Czech. She looks forward to working on music in other languages in the future.
